Pythagorean Theorem Activity

These activities have students explore theories and relationships involving triangles. Students discover the Pythagorean Theorem and use it to explore the Pythagorean and Equiangular Spirals.

In this activity, we use rubber bands and geoboards to have students make different triangles. Students draw each triangle created on their worksheet, measuring every angle and side. The goal is to have students come up with different relationships between the sides and the angles of a triangle.

Pythagorean Theorem #2  The Pythagorean Theorem

This activity uses origami paper to lead students to the Pythagorean theorem. The slides for this activity provides instructions for folding the paper. The worksheet guides students to make observations about the different folds and triangles, concluding with the Pythagorean theorem.

Pythagorean Theorem #3
The Pythagorean Spiral

Students fold the Pythagorean Spiral by following the instructions in the slides. Once they have folded their spirals, students use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the perimeter and the area of the spiral as a whole.

Pythagorean Theorem #4
The Equiangular Spiral

Students fold the Equiangular Spiral with a sheet of origami paper, and instructions are presented in the slides. Students use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the perimeter and the area of the spiral as a whole.
